Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Presence of Parkinson's syndrome (according to UK Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank Diagnostic Criteria), indication for deep brain stimulation based on clinical indication and patient intended/consented, planned THS implantation in STN. Montreal cognitive assessment>23, BDI<19.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnancy, current desire to have children or breastfeeding (exclusion by medical history), inability to walk or severe walking disability with inability to stand and walk freely, presence of severe orthopedic, psychiatric or internal diseases, contraindication for deep brain stimulation, lack of capacity to consent. Planned THS implantation in globus pallidus internus/ ncl. ventralis intermedius, Montreal cognitive assessment19.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in gait pattern measured with surface EMG. Change in motor learning during training or consolidation (measured with Performance Index in a motor sequencing task).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Quality of life (EQ-5D), number of falls(FOGQ und Time-up-and-go-Test), depression (BDI), and cognition (MOCA) after intervention (each collected by questionnaires).
