Conditions

The subjects are healthy independent living older adults aged =65 years. The main goal is to improve mobility via muscle strength, as well as walking and cognitive performance.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Included are generally healthy women and men aged = 65 to 85 years who still live independently in their own household and who do not have (i) diagnosed brain injuries or cognitive impairments, (ii) physical impairments (e.g. cane or walker) and (iii) chronic neurological diseases (e.g. multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease) are present.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Excluded are persons younger than 65 years of age and over 85 years, not living independently, and who have diagnosed (i) brain injuries or cognitive impairments, (ii) physical impairments (e.g. cane or walker), and (iii) chronic neurological diseases (e.g., multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease). Furthermore, people are excluded who regularly take medication that has an impact on physical and mental performance. Apart from the inclusion and exclusion criteria mentioned, there are no further restrictions on participation.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The assessment of the primary outcomes includes the (Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) with an additional sit-to-stand test, walking performance (z.B. step length, step width) under ST and DT conditions (DT: visual-verbal Stroop Task), cognitive performance (Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Trail Making Test A+B), and satisfaction with life (Satisfaction with Life Scale).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes included assessments of muscle strength and functional ability, which will be measured using a hand dynamometer (Jamar Hand dynamometer hydraulic),and a functional independence questionnaire, respectively.
