Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Complete consolidation of the fracture, implant in place at the time of measurement, medical clearance for sports activities, planned removal of the intramedullary nail independent of the study, if histological examination of the tendon is performed, the nail must have been inserted via a transpatellar approach.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Bilateral fractures, injuries of the quadriceps or patellar tendon, osteoarthritis of the knee joint, history of long-term treatment with corticosteroids and/or quinolone antibiotics.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Identification of initial evidence of altered mechanical properties of the patellar tendon after intramedullary nailing of tibial shaft fractures

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Histological changes of the tendon tissue
