Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: School avoidance: Before treatment, at least 10% of the scheduled class time was missed in the first three months prior to admission for therapy. School-related prognosis: Based on clinical judgment and global assessment of psychosocial functioning, there are anticipated difficulties with reintegrating into school and daily life. Need/capability for rehabilitation: The rehabilitation measure is expected to eliminate a significant health risk or to improve or restore health. Written consent of the rehabilitant and the legal guardians.

MeasureTime frame
Perceived quality of implementation of the rehabilitation measure: assessment by the rehabilitee, their parents or guardians, involved teachers and youth welfare workers, number of therapy sessions conducted. Data collection instruments: qualitative interviews with 30 randomly selected children and parents who received treatment, self-designed questionnaires on perceived quality of content for all children, parents, teachers, and youth welfare workers.

Reduction of psychological symptoms, reduction of school absenteeism, achievement of the proximal educational goal (promotion to the next grade, graduation) upon completion of the rehabilitation measure or 6 months later. Assessment time points: T1: Beginning of the rehabilitation measure, T2: End of the rehabilitation measure, T3: Follow-up 6 months after completion of the rehabilitation measure. Assessment instruments: Self-report questionnaire on academic self-efficacy (SQ-SS), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire for children and parents, German version (SDQ-D), Inventory of School Avoidance Behavior, children and parent versions (ISV), Health of the Nations Outcome Scales for Children and Adolescents, German version (HoNOSCA-D), information from parents and teachers on school absenteeism, psychiatric diagnoses (according to treating physicians), demographic information (age, type of school attended, duration and setting of previous psychiatric hospital treatment). Perceived implementation quality of the rehabilitation measure: assessment by the rehabilitants, their parents or legal guardians, participating teachers, and youth welfare workers, number of therapy sessions provided. Assessment instruments: qualitative interview with 30 randomly selected treated children and parents, self-designed questionnaires on perceived content quality for all children, parents, teachers, and youth welfare workers.
