Interventions

Group 1: Patients with a NPS poisoning for who the PCCs were consulted and a case report form was registered at the individual PCC.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: To be included in this study, a case must meet all of the following criteria: - a patient with at least one reported exposure to a NPS for who a call is made to one of the participating PCCs. - The following cases are included: o Cases for who calls were made by the general public and by medical professionals. o Cases of all ages and gender. o Cases with and without concomitant exposure. o Cases with and without symptoms. o Cases with acute, acute on chronic, and chronic NPS exposures. o Cases with withdrawal symptoms. o Cases with an NPS exposure, but for who the PCC was consulted on another exposure (e.g., a medication overdose).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: A case who meets any of the following criteria will be excluded from inclusion in this study: • All human patients without a reported NPS exposure for who a call is made to Danish, Dutch, Freiburg (Germany), or the Swiss PCC. • The following cases are excluded: o All veterinary cases. o Cases with an exposure to unknown drugs (and not a specified NPS). Cases with a NPS exposure that was not reported during one of the consultations with the PCC. For example, cases with a NPS exposure, based only on later exposure analysis.

Measure	Time frame
The main study parameter is the number of and the rate of (specific) NPS poisonings reported to the four PCCs in 2021. The NPS poisoning rate is calculated relative to common drug poisonings. The proportion of specific classes of NPS are also studied.	—

Secondary study parameters are patient characteristics: -age group, gender - exposure characteristics: route of exposure, dose, type of exposure (acute/chronic), concomitant exposures. - symptoms reported during PCC consultation: coma (EMV), convulsion, hyperthermia (temp C), tachycardia (HF/min), bradycardia (HF/min), hypertension (BP mmHg), hypotension (BP (mmHg)), tachypnea (rate/min), saturation, agitation, aggression. - Differences between countries.	—
