Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - Native speaker level in German (for patients prior to stroke) For patients: - Etiology: first stroke - Phase of disease: subacute or chronic phase (at least 6 weeks after stroke) - Presence of aphasia/ residual aphasia - Capacity to consent - Treatment at the Aachen aphasia ward at the time of participation in the study
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Active implants - Intracorporal metal which can harm the patient by movement or heating - Dentures with magnetic parts - Implant in head which leads to severe artifacts - MR-safe passive implants (e.g., artificial knee or hip) without valid document - Claustrophobia - Pregnancy - Other independent neurological diseases which lead to language disorders, particularly dementia and severe microangiopathies - Uncontrolled epilepsy

| Behavioral data are collected from clinical routine. Different tests are conducted depending on the type and severity of aphasia and possible concomitant disorders. The tests are either carried out at T1 and T2 or once during the stay. In particular, they include language tests (Aachen Aphasia Test - AAT, Lexikon Modellorientiert - LeMo, Bielefelder Wortfindungsscreening - BIWOS, Regensburger Wortflüssigkeitstest - RWT, Nonverbalen Semantiktest - NVST, Wortproduktionsprüfung - WPP, Hierarchische Wortlisten - HWL, Szenario-Test, spontaneous speech from picture description) and neuropsychological tests (Testbatterie zur Aufmerksamkeitsprüfung - TAP, Leistungsprüfsystem - LPS, Nonverbalen Lerntest - NVLT, Corsi Block Tapping Test - CORSI, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - WAIS IV). | — |
