Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: • IPC teams consisting of at least four members • At least one in-house IPC physician, as part of the IPC team, must participate • Consent must be obtained from hospital management, IPC management, staff council and data protection officer • Number of hospital beds >400 • A quality level of in-house hand hygiene monitoring by direct observation that at least meets the criteria of the bronze certificate of the “Aktion Saubere Hände”, the “Clean Care is Safer Care” Campaign in its German adaptation
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: • Hospitals receiving external IPC consulting via a third party / consulting service • <4 IPC team members in total • Failure to collect hand hygiene compliance data by direct observation • Participation in other (research) projects / trials evaluating endpoints which could influence this trial’s outcome(s) • Endpoint-relevant restructuring plans slated to begin within 12 months of the start of the trial
