Interventions

Group 1: Visuospatial Intervention: Writing down (reactivating) the content of a recurring trauma-related intrusion followed by playing the computer game Tetris for 25 minutes (visuospatial condition)

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients meet the A-criterion of post-traumatic stress disorder according to DSM-5, i. e. have suffered one or more traumatic events -Patients suffer from recurrent intrusions (at least 5x/week) in relation to a single traumatic event that occurred at least 2 months ago - Willingness and motivation to participate in the study - Fluent in the German language

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Current substance abuse (excluding nicotine) or history of substance abuse, less than 6 months - Serious self-injurious behaviour (defined as self-inflicted injuries requiring medical attention) within the last 6 months - Psychotic symptoms within the last 6 months - Acute suicidal thoughts or intentions - Ongoing trauma therapy (i. e. use of exposure techniques such as EMDR)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change of patient-reported intrusion frequency (number of intrusions per week, measured by intrusion diary) compared to baseline (monitoring intrusions 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after intervention)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction of scores in PCL-5 questionnaire (PTSD checklist for DSM-5), measured at inclusion (T0) and debriefing 4 weeks later (T2).
