Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Ability to walk short distances (10 m) without walking aid - Capacity to consent exists (MMSE > 22 pts) and understand the training programme - Participation in inpatient geriatric acute rehabilitation for participants at the Klinikum Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide (does not apply for the patients at the Rehabilitationszentrum Oldenburg) - Participation in inpatient geriatric rehabilitation for participants at the Rehabilitationszentrum Oldenburg (does not apply for the patients at the Klinikum Bremerhaven-Renkenheide) - Sufficient knowledge of German or English to follow the training instructions

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Aphasia to an extent that participation in the study is not possible - Severe visual limitations that impede the participation in the training intervention - High grade presbycusis - Severe impairment of physical functionality and limitations of functions of the arms and legs with the inability to walk - Body mass > 135 kg (technical limitation) - Height > 185 cm (technical limitation) - Joint replacement surgery of the lower extremities within the past 3 weeks

MeasureTime frame
Part A: Ratio of included participants per total number of patients of the ward in the SSE group therapy in (acute) geriatric rehabilitation. Part B: Ratio of included participants per total number of patients of the ward in the TBPT group therapy in geriatric rehabilitation.

Part A and B: • Acceptance (Participants and Physiotherapists) via an interview (Appendix 1) • Safety: Falls, any event leading to discontinuation of therapy • Quality of inclusion criteria: participants who couldn`t attend SSE group therapy although they had fulfilled the inclusion criteria • Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) at the beginning of rehabilitation • Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) at the beginning and end of rehabilitation • Timed Up and Go test (TUG) at the beginning and end of rehabilitation • Fear of falling at the beginning and end of rehabilitation (Short FESI) • Number of participants per SSE and TBPT group therapy session for each facility respectively and ratio of participants compared to total number of patients and asked patients in rehabilitation unit • Number of SSE and TBPT group therapy sessions during hospital stay for each facility respectively • Sex, diagnoses, medication • Duration and dates of stay at the hospital / rehabilitation center • Use of walking aids at the beginning and end of rehabilitation • Patients‘characteristics from patient record • Reactive balance at the beginning and end of rehabilitation at the Rehabilitationszentrum Oldenburg, independent of allocation to SSE or TBPT group sessions
