Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Regular students (incl. doctoral studies) of the University of Bayreuth in the age range between 18-29 years (both age groups included), - Overweight/obese according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification from a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 (the study team reserves the right to exclude individuals with a BMI greater than 25 kg/m2 whose classification was due to increased muscle mass and no apparent overweight).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Acute infection due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19). - Serious acute/chronic illnesses that preclude participation in the study in the judgment of the study medical team - Pregnant women or women who directly intend to become pregnant - (Orthopedic) limitations that militate against sitting, standing or walking over a duration of 8 hours

MeasureTime frame
The aim of the study is to investigate how a change in body position (alternate sitting and standing, walking or standing continuously) compared to uninterrupted sitting affects the mean 8-h glucose metabolism. For this purpose, capillary glucose measurements will be performed for each 8-hour intervention period before the start and every hour thereafter. On each intervention day, the subjects always receive the same standardized breakfast (one choice possible) and lunch (choice of microwave meals).

- To investigate the effect of a change in body position (alternate sitting and standing, walking or continuous standing) compared to uninterrupted sitting on certain pro-/antiinflammatory markers (TNF-alpha, IL-6, IL-10, hs-CRP). For this purpose, venous blood draws for cytokine analysis will be performed at each 8-hour intervention period before baseline, one hour after lunch, and after eight hours. - The aim is to investigate how a change in body position (alternate sitting and standing, walking, or continuous standing) compared with uninterrupted sitting affects mean 24-h glucose metabolism. For this purpose, capillary glucose measurements will be performed for each 8-hour intervention period before the start and every hour thereafter. On each intervention day, the subjects always receive the same standardized breakfast (one choice possible) and lunch (choice of microwave meals). Measurements following the intervention will be performed by the participants themselves via manual glucose measurement on the fingertip hourly until night rest, once during the night and again after getting up the next day using Contour next one. - The aim is to investigate the effect of a change in body position (alternate sitting and standing, walking or continuous standing) on 8-h heart rate variability (HRV) compared to uninterrupted sitting. Measurements on HRV will take place using Bittium Faros 180 Holter ECG. - To investigate the effect of changing body position (alternate sitting and standing, walking or continuous standing) on 24-h heart rate variability (HRV) compared to uninterrupted sitting. Measurements on HRV will take place using Bittium Faros 180 Holter ECG. - To investigate whether there is an association between general sedentary behavior and certain pro/antiinflammatory markers (TNF-alpha, IL-6, IL-10, hs-CRP).
