Interventions

Group 1: Intervention group: Dietary counselling to reduce omega-6-containing foods and increase omega-3-containing foods (1x, 60-90 min)
then, for 10 weeks, replacement of oils in cooking with rapeseed oil and linseed oil (provided as part of the study) and intake of fish oil capsules (120mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 180mg eicosap

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Diagnosis of dementia - Practising an energy-reduced diet (diet) - Diseases which, according to medical judgement, have an effect on the bioavailability and metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids (e.g. gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases) - A vegetarian/vegan diet, other alternative diets with significantly altered/restricted food choices

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction in the omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio of the intervention group before and after the intervention compared with the control group, measured in blood (arachidonic acid ARA/eicosapentaenoic acid EPA). Comparison is based on blood sampling before the start of the nutritional intervention (T0) and after completion (T10).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Exploratory data will be collected on: Change in diet/intake of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids by Food Frequency Questionnaire and 24h Food Recall Questionnaire (T0,T2,T4,T6;T8,T10); Cognitive performance (T0,T10) using neuropsychological testbatterie consisting of CERAD+ and additional tests; genome-wide methylation data (blood sampling at T0, T10); inflammation markers (blood sampling at T0, T10); possible changes in lifestyle and well-being between T0 and T10
