Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - age >18 - able to consent - elective operation, all disziplines - elective postoperative admission on a postoperative care, intermediated care or intensive care unit

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - not able to consent - medical reasons against the use of the actigraphy device (Actiwatch) on the wrist (e.g. fractures) - medical reasons against the use of the ANC head sets (e.g. ear surgery) - Diseases with tremor, involuntarily muscle contractions or moving impairment - obstructive sleep apnoe syndrome (OSAS) - hearing impairment (who grade 3,4) - deafness - blindness - soporific abusus - acute or chronic pruritus - acute central nervous system disease (e.g. head trauma, ICB, stroke) - severe sepsis, septic shock - intoxication

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Sleep Quality during the first postoperative night on the observation ward. Assessment on the next morning will be made by Richard Campell Sleep Questionnaire.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1) Postoperative delirium on the first postoperative day. Assessment will be made by confusion assessment method for the intensive care unit (CAM-ICU) 2.) Sleeping pattern (Total sleep time, wake after sleep onset, onset latency, sleep latency, sleep efficiency, number of awakenings) during the first postoperative night, monitored by actigraphy.
