Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients who are <18 years old and have been and will be implanted at the Hearing Center of the University Hospital Düsseldorf.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: no cochlea implant

Speech therapists and audiologists at the Hearing Center of the University Hospital of Düsseldorf complete an ICF criteria-based assessment form at four points in time as part of the standard of care of the Hearing Center Düsseldorf. This involves patient-related assessments of hearing and quality of life. An ICF-based assessment form for audiological and speech therapy professionals, in the setting of cochlear implant care, creates comparable, interdisciplinary assessments of the course of hearing and quality of life of CI-supported patients. In the clinical context, it also serves to monitor and present the course of patient-related health data. Furthermore, it can support the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting and documentation. The data were collected as part of the standard-of-care at the Hearing Center Düsseldorf (ENT clinic). The selected and assessed ICF categories will be evaluated retrospectively for research purposes. The ICF criteria based assessment questionnaire was developed to complement the subjective patient data collected by questionnaires and the free-text and open-ended long-term documentation of speech therapy and audiology professionals within CI aftercare. To date, professional documentation has taken place without metric assessments. An ICF-based assessment form was developed and established as part of the standard-of-care at the Hörzentrum Düsseldorf. The assessment form was used by speech therapists and audiologists at four points in time. Thus, an efficient documentation of the course could be guaranteed. Data were collected by the treating professionals preoperatively, at the CI pre-examination, and twice postoperatively: at the initial fitting and six months after the initial fitting. Speech therapists and audiologists completed the ICF assessment form after each counseling, fitting, or therapy session.
