Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Men and women 18 years and older. - Postal address in Germany. - Possession of a smartphone with NFC and Bluetooth. - Sufficient knowledge of German or English to read and understand the instructions. - Capability and willingness to give informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Pregnant and breastfeeding women. - Dialysis patients, persons taking chronic immunosuppressive drugs, persons with skin diseases, including contact dermatitis, and critically ill patients. - Taking antibiotics in the three months prior to study enrollment. - Chronically active inflammatory or neoplastic disease in the three years prior to study enrollment. - Chronic gastrointestinal disease, including inflammatory bowel disease and celiac disease. - Active neuropsychiatric disorder.

Continuing the Food & You study already implemented in Switzerland as a pilot study in Germany and replicating the results of Zeevi et al. with a digital cohort and citizen science methodology. a. Determine the interpersonal variability of postprandial blood glucose response and examine the effects of the following influencing factors: diet, anthropometric data, lifestyle, physical activity, sleep, and microbiome composition. b. Comparison of a German cohort with existing Swiss cohorts. c. Assist in the development of a new algorithm to predict PPGR using data readily available (i.e., low user effort and affordable) via such a "digital cohort".

MeasureTime frame
Testing the MyFoodRepo mobile application on a German cohort. a. Adaptation of the MyFoodRepo app for German consumers with integration of the BLS database (Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel). b. Determine food consumption and nutritional status of the digital cohort to improve understanding of dietary habits in Germany. c. Evaluate the suitability of the app to track individual food intake at a scalable scale, over longer periods of time, and with sufficient accuracy.
