Interventions

Group 1: Patients diagnosed with arachnophobia receive one single exposure-therapy after pre-diagnostic. After that, there will be a post-diagnostic. 6 month later the patients are invited to a follow

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with a diagnosed arachnophobia with a Spider Phobia Questionnaire (SPQ) score of 20 or higher (Arm 1) or a panic disorder oder social anxiety disorder, who have psychotherapy or are on a waiting list for psychotherapy. Furthermore, the patients have to be right-handed, need to speak and write german fluently and need to be vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19. For arm 1, adaption disorder, mild oder moderate major depressive disorder and a second specific phobia with less burden of disease compared to arachnophobia are acceptable. For arm 2, other psychiatric comorbidities, the medication with psychopharmaca for treating the anxiety disorder or the on-demand medication with benzodiazepines are acceptable.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: General exclusion criteria for both arms: Pregnancy, heavy overweight (MRI ineligibility), amblyopia over 6 dioptre or corneal irregularity without the accessibility of contact lenses, prosopagnosia, neurologic diseases, psychiatric diseases with an organic cause, systemic diseases, metal in the body, tattoos, that have been gotten out of europe, piercings that can not be taken out, the intake of benzodiazepines, no willingness to be tested for Covid-19 or missing anti-Covid-19 vaccination. The exclusion criteria for arm 1 are the participation on a study about arachnophobia, held by out institute, the intake of pschyotropic drugs and other mental diseases. For arm 2, the exclusion criteria are current or life-time drug addictions and the intake of benzodiazepines while attending our study.

50% reduction in a behavioral avoidance test with a live spider (arm 1; spider phobia) or 50% reduction in the Hamilton Anxiety Scala (HAMA; arm 2)
