Group 1: Metastable resistance training 2x/week á 60 min
whole body resistance training with free weights on unstable devices (e.g. Squats, Front Lunges, Bridge Exercise, Crunches) Group 2: machine-based resistance training 2x/week á 60 min
whole body resistance training on machines (e.g. Squats at the Smith Machine, Bridge Exercise, Crunches, leg press) Group 3: Balance Training 2x/week á 60 min
balance training with bipedal, monopedal and tandem stance on unstable devices
variation by changing unstable devices, open and closed eyes during the exercise and catching and throwing of a ball

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Stable health condition; independent lifestyle; normal or corrected visual acuity

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: severely limited or unstable health condition (e.g. cardiovascular disease, fever); physical limitations (e.g. pain during physical activity); neurological or neurodegenerative disease; cognitive impairment (assessed by using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA©)), walking aids, mental illness (Geriatric Depression Scale > 9 points), electronically controlled or monitored implants, defibrillator, pacemaker, artificial joint, osteoporosis

Cognitive performance and executive functions (EF) using different computer tests. Higher-Level EF: initial thinking time and the number of (optimal) solved problems in the Tower of London Task before and after the intervention (pre/post), Inhibition: time ratio of between reaction time for color words (interference condition) and colored circles (Stroop Score) in a visual-verbal Stroop Task (Pre/Post). working memory/updating: maximum number of correctly reproduced numbers in a digit span backwards task (pre/post) cognitive flexibility/shifting: reaction time and response accuracy in a task switch paradigm (pre/post) spatial perception: reaction time and response accuracy in a Visual Search Task (Pre/Post) cognitive-motor interference: time and dual-task costs in a trail walking task
