Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: depressive episode according to DSM V (major depressive disorder) being able to understand the study procedure

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Exclusion criteria for the performance of an MRI examination - Pregnancy in women - current (present or in the last 4 weeks) treatment with an antidepressant drug - depressive episode with psychotic symptoms - acute suicidality, suicidal intent, or suicidal plans - alcohol and/or drug dependence according to DSM-V - history of drug-induced psychosis - organic diseases affecting brain function (hormonal diseases, e.g. thyroid disease) - subjects that cannot communicate during the MRI scanning via the speaker with the MR employees due to illness related disturbances or disturbances as side effects of medication - infectious diseases, bronchial asthma, and other diseases affecting the pulmonary system - current cancer (or in the last year) - neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis - diabetes mellitus - comorbid axis I disease - patients participating in another clinical investigation

Primary

MeasureTime frame
volatile organic compounds from breath will be measured at the day of investigation. Subjects will breath for this into Teddlar bags and then VOCs will be measured afterwards from the Teddlar bags.
