Interventions

Group 1: Implementation of an eight-week training program. The training includes different types of jumps that either induce high strain and strain rates (muscular power
e.g., reactive jumps) or increase aerobic and anaerobic muscle power (high-intensity interval training (HIIT)
e.g., countermovement jumps). The training is conducted 2-3 times per week in sessions of up to 15 minutes, gradually ramped in terms of intensity and volume. Group 2: No training

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participation is open to individuals who are physically inactive, engage in no/little exercise, and wish to improve their physical fitness through exercise.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Excluded are persons for whom medical reasons speak against the participation in the jump training and/or in the physiological and psychological tests and measurements (e.g. due to injuries, diseases, or medication).

Increased sports and exercise behavior in everyday life (assessed with sports watches and movement sensors), improved physical performance (assessed with jump, strength, and balance tests as well as functional and endurance tests), strengthened psychological performance and mental well-being (assessed with questionnaires, psychological tests, analysis of saliva samples, and brain imaging procedures).

Assess the scalability of the intervention and identify physiological and/or psychological processes centrally involved in the effectiveness of the intervention.
