Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Diagnosis low back pain (ICD M54.5) - Complaints subacute or chronic (>6 weeks) - Access to a smartphone or tablet for Nola app use - Sufficient knowledge of the German language - Comprehension/cognitive capacity to understand the study information and to give informed consent for study participation - Age = 18 years - Willingness to travel to the Human Movement focal practice in Essen, Germany, during the intervention period in case of assignment to IG1 (physio + app)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Pain diagnoses other than M54.5 - Complaints <6 weeks - Low back pain with causes requiring treatment (e.g., fractures or tumors) or other physical complaints or illnesses that do not allow physical training to be performed - Insufficient skills in handling a smartphone and app download and use - Pregnancy

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Pain intensity and pain-related disability assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). To assess pain intensity (NRS), the current pain intensity at rest and on exertion as well as the average and maximum pain intensity during the last 4 weeks.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Health-related quality of life (SF 12), pain-related fear of movement (TSK), pain catastrophizing (PSC), pain knowledge (NPQ), long-term impairment (StarTBack), subjective perception of change (PGIC), stance stability (force plate), and trunk muscle maximum strength (Isokinet).
