Group 1: Analysis of questionnaires filled out by parents. Investigation of how alexithymia is expressed in kindergarten age and what connection exists with internalizing behavior.

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The participants have to be parents of a 3 - 6 year old child who attends a kindergarten or daycare center. Another requirement is a very good knowledge of the German language.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Parents of a 3-6 year old child who does not attend preschool or daycare. Participants should not be visually impaired.

| The study aims to investigate how alexithymia is expressed in children of kindergarten age. The construct alexithymia describes difficulties in recognizing and naming one's own feelings. Furthermore, it will be investigated how alexithymia is associated with internalizing behaviors (i.e., anxious and depressive behaviors) of the children. Thus, it will be shown whether this association exists even at kindergarten age. Questionnaires used: - Demographic data questions. - Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire Adapted for Children - Parent Report Version (PAG-P): query about the child's alexithymia using a modified parent report version (PAG-C). - Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ): Questionnaire for parents assessing internalizing and externalizing difficulties and prosocial behavior of the child - Relationship Problems Questionnaire (RPQ): Assessment of child's attachment behavior, short version. The study is expected to begin in June 2022 and run for a period of 6 months. | — |

| Furthermore, the role of parental alexithymia and Theory of Mind ability or emotion recognition will be examined in more detail. Questionnaires used: - Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire (PAQ): Capturing parental self-report alexithymia with 24 scales on three subscales. - Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET): recording parents' Theory of Mind ability or emotion recognition, short version.
