Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Phases 1 to 3: German language ability, age of majority, written informed consent to participate in the study, at least three months working in an intensive care unit, intensive care nurses living and working in Germany.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Nurses of outpatient intensive care units and inpatient long-term ventilator units are excluded from the survey.

The aim is to provide a valid German-language instrument that reliably measures the frequency and intensity of moral distress. The following research questions should be answered: 1. what is the scale structure and internal consistency of the Guideline-compliant translated instrument? 2. what is the content and construct validity of the translated instrument? 3) What is the level of moral distress and intention to leave the profession among intensive care nurses and which influencing factors offer potential for the development of interventions to reduce moral distress and intention to leave the intensive care profession?	—
