Inclusion criteria: - Age = 18 years - Existing capacity to give consent - Patients undergoing esophageal/pancreatic surgery - Present written consent

Exclusion criteria: - Pregnancy - Inclusion in another interventional study - Refusal to participate in the study

- Do the different surgical techniques/wound surfaces in open vs. minimally invasive surgery in the esophagus and pancreas affect factor XIII activity? - Do perioperative complications (bleeding complications, anastomotic insufficiencies and wound healing disorders) correlate with coagulation factor XIII activity?

-Prevalence of FXIII deficiency? -Perioperative course of FXIII levels? -Correlation of factor XIII with transfusion requirements? -Correlation of FXIII activity and duration of ventilation, length of intensive care stay and 28d mortality?
