Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All volunteer female and male subjects of Leipzig University Dentistry who do not fall within the exclusion criteria will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnant women and subjects under 18 years of age, as well as subjects who have insufficient conservative (open carious lesions) and prosthetic restorations, a periodontal screening index (PSI) greater than 2, or positive findings in the anamnestic CMD brief screening (Reissmann et al. 2009), will be excluded from participation in the study. Subjects with known allergies to ingredients of the materials used in the study will also be excluded from the study. Existing dentures should have been in situ for at least six months; study participants with shortened dentition up to the second premolar are considered to have sufficient prosthetic restoration.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective of the present study is to investigate whether xerostomia and/or salivary flow rate correlate with individual chewing efficiency. Secondarily, it will also be investigated whether these parameters correlate with the dental status or the prosthetic care of the subject and what influence these factors have on oral health-related quality of life. In addition, age-specific, gender-specific and socioeconomic influences will be analyzed.

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome parameters include determination of salivary buffering capacity, determination of pH of unstimulated saliva, determination of pH of stimulated saliva, dental status, prosthetic restorations, and oral health-related quality of life.
