Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Gender: Both, male and female Minimum Age: 18 Years Maximum Age: 65 Years at least mild to moderate depressive symptoms, assessed via a score of = 6 on the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS -SR)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: for the saliva cortisol assessment: medication with glucocorticoids, endocrine diseases (Morbus Addison oder Cushing), pregnancy, shift work; In the case of an acute infection, the saliva sampling is postponed. If the above exclusion criteria are met, participation in the rest of the study is however still possible. The participants are also informed that the study is not suitable for people who are currently suffering from high (mental) stress and who urgently need psychological or medical help, since the training is aimed at improving mood, but cannot replace psychotherapy. Participants are encouraged to contact their general practitioner or a psychological psychotherapist, if they feel that they need urgent psychological help. Information is provided on how to search for a psychotherapist on the website of the Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists and reference is made to the telephone number of the nationwide telephone counseling service.

Manipulation-check for the Positive Mental Imagery Training: changes in the scores of the Prospective Imagery Test (Morina, Deeprose, Pusowski, Schmid, & Holmes, 2011) and Ambiguous Scenarios Test for Depression (Rohrbacher, & Reinecke, 2014) from pre-test to post-test; Manipulation-check for the mindfulness training: changes in the scores of the Five Facet Mindfulness Scale from pre-test to post-test; Furthermore changes in the following measures from pre-test to post-test and pre-test to follow-up after 4 weeks: changes in the score of the Dimensional Anhedonia Rating Scale (DARS); changes in cortisol awakening reaction and cortisol day profiles; changes in the score of the Perceived Stress Scale; changes in the scores of the Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule; changes in the scores of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and subscales attention and regulation of the rating scale of emotional competencies (Selbsteinschätzung Emotionaler Kompetenzen)
