Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients aged 18 years and older with a regularly recurring HSV-1 infection regardless of gender can participate in the study. The region of infection should be located in the red of the lips or in the near lip margin area.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Skin type above III 2) Light intolerance 3) Vascular disorders 4) Diabetic mellitus 5) Continuous medication (immunosuppressants, antibiotics, antihistamines, analgesics) 6) Antivirals in the last ¼ year. 7) No permanent makeup around/or in the red of the lips 8) Smokers 9) Pregnant patients 10) Patients under 18 years of age 11) Kidney disease The aim of the exclusion criteria is to reduce external/internal interfering factors. Furthermore, light absorption and light propagation are optimized.

MeasureTime frame
The effect of diode laser treatment compared to standard treatment with the antiviral aciclovir in skin florescence is investigated. Investigations of skin florescence reduction and pain sensation will take place after 24 hours. The change in inflammation is determined with the Mexamter. The Mexameter is a non-invasive, painless measurement. The pain sensation is documented with the visual analog scale (VAS pain scale).

MeasureTime frame
Objective: Diode laser treatment should be used more for the treatment of herpes type 1 if the following is true: The erythema (inflammation) score after diode laser treatment is reduced more than in the control group treated with antiviral. The success of laser treatment for HSV-1 infection is independent of skin type I-III. The clinical parameter "pain" decreases more under laser treatment than under ointment treatment. The skin change can be used for follow-up.
