Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary endpoint is to analyze the feasibility of using the gaming application REThink(aligned with David et al, European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (2019) 28:111-122). The study is considered feasible if: - 70% of adolescents meeting inclusion criteria can be recruited, - 85% of subjects complete all levels of the REThink app, - 70% of subjects in the REThink app + coaching treatment group participate in both group sessions.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Based on the basic intentions of a pilot study according to Thabane et al (BMC Medical Research Methodology 2010, 10:1), the following secondary outcomes will be explored: Central questions are: - What is the rate of rejection? What is the adolescent compliance rate? What is the loss-to-follow-up rate? - What are reasons for participation/non-participation? What do youth like and dislike about the REThink game/coaching? - What subject clientele does the study target? Does the study reach all socioeconomic strata? What is the age and gender distribution? - Relative to the overall population of adolescents with chronic illness, is it more appropriate to offer a low-threshold resilience game alone or a combined training intervention with in-depth coaching? Additional questions include: Process & Resources: - What human, technical and spatial resources are needed to implement such a study? - Can all relevant data be collected using the questionnaires? - Are the instructions of the smartphone game understandable? Are the questions from the questionnaires understandable? - What time capacity is needed to implement such a study? (Recruitment period, creating the technical requirements, e.g. preparation of the app, download of the app, implementation, contacting the test persons, filling out the questionnaires, playing time of the app). - What financial resources are needed to implement such a study? (e.g., release of study personnel according to time required, app development) - Were there any technical obstacles during the implementation of the study (e.g., lack of smartphone, problems downloading the app, access computer for digital coaching)? Management: - What challenges do study staff face in the course of implementing the app study (e.g., lack of interest in study participation, problems with questionnaire return) and how can these be resolved? - What challenges arise in data collection, processing, and management? For the above process evaluation
