Group 1: Simultaneous execution of a TTE and TEE and measurement of left and right heart parameters as well as parameters regarding heart valves

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Written consent (either patient or legal guardian) 2. Age =18 years 3. Clinical indication for echocardiography 4. Surgical intervention with an indication for advanced hemodynamic monitoring using TEE under endotracheal intubation/tracheostomy or ventilated intensive care patients who are being treated in intensive care units and mechanically ventilated for another indication, without prior surgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Pregnant and breastfeeding women - Contraindication to performing a TEE - Participation in another prospective intervention study while participating in this study - Exclusion of participation in the study in a living will or power of attorney - Accommodation by court or official order - Consent of legal guardian cannot be obtained promptly

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Percent error in Bland-Altmann analysis of left ventricular diastolic function parameters (E/e', septal and/or lateral e' velocity, tricuspid valve regurgitation velocity, left atrial volume index) =15% between TEE and TTE

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
There is no relevant difference between TEE and TTE in the evaluation of - left ventricular systolic function - right ventricular systolic function - Volume status and volume responsiveness - Heart valve function - Dimensions and diameters of the left ventricular atria and ventricles - Dimension of pericardial and pleural effusions - left ventricular longitudinal deformation for surgically ventilated and intensive care patients requiring ventilation. The image quality of TEE is significantly better than of TTE examinations in surgically ventilated and intensive care patients requiring ventilation. There is no relevant difference between TEE and TTE with regard to the resulting changes in therapy based on echocardiographic findings between TTE and TEE in surgically ventilated and intensive care patients requiring ventilation.
