Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. age of 18 years or older 2. written informed consent 3. preoperative sinus rhythm 4. sinus rhythm or atrial pacing after termination of extracorporeal circulation 5. preoperative preserved biventricular function 6. uneventful intraoperative course 7. For CAGB and OPCAB patients: no significant heart valve disease 8. For AKE patients: severe aortic valve stenosis, no other significant heart valve disease 9. For MKE and MKR patients: primary severe mitral regurgitation, no other significant heart valve disease

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. severe pulmonary hypertension (pulmonary artery pressure >45 mmHg) 2. Redo procedure 3. Patients with contraindications to transesophageal echocardiography 4. intraoperative complications (e.g. shock, mechanical circulatory support after weaning from bypass, severe bleeding, difficult or complex weaning from bypass, change of surgical procedure, rethoracotomy) 5. For CABG and OPCAB patients: incomplete revascularisation 6. For AKE and MKE patients: more than mild paravalvular leakage, more than mild patient-prosthesis mismatch 7. For MKR patients: more than mild mitral valve regurgitation, more than mild mitral valve stenosis
