Influence of caffeine on melanopsin sensitivity in the retina

Interventions

Group 1: Each participant will be exposed to four conditions in random order. These conditions are: DP – dim light (<10 lux) and placebo
DC - dim light (<10 lx) and caffeine
LP – <1000 lux light exposure and placebo, LC – <1000 lux light exposure and caffeine (3.0 mg/kg). The <1000 lux light will be provided by room overhead illumination throughout the protocol. The value

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: BMI 29.9; Chronotoype (Morningness-Evening Questionnaire) (69); Sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, PSQI) (>5); Substance abuse (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, AUDIT) (>7); Depressive symptoms (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale, CES-D) (>17); Habitual caffeine intake consumption (Caffeine intake questionnaire) (300 mg/day)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Schwangerschaft; hormonelle Verhuetungsmittel, BMI 29.9; exklusive Verwendung von Kontaktlinsen; hohe Myopie; Zeitzonenreisen in den letzten drei Monaten; Schichtarbeit in den letzten drei Monaten; Teilnahme in anderen klinischen Studien; Koffeinempfindlichkeit
