Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - Male gender - age between 18-29 - BMI 18.5 - 25 - Physically active: - < 150 minutes/week of moderate-intensity exercise (e.g. 5 x 30 minutes/week) or < 75 minutes/higher-intensity exercise (running, cycling, playing sports). - No regular participation in strength training during the last 12 months - Stable weight and nutritional behaviour (mixed diet) - Informed consent - No contraindications to exercise according to ACSM guidelines - Metabolically healthy
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Regular participation in strength and endurance training during the last 12 months. - Malignant diseases in the past 5 years. - Cardiac disease (e.g. chronic heart disease, arrhythmia, valvular disease, arthritis etc.). Cardiac disease (e.g. chronic heart disease, arrhythmia, heart valve disease, arthritis, etc.). - Arterial hypertension (RRsyst > 200 mmHg and/or RRdiast > 105 mmHg) at rest. - Presence of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). - Presence of a lipometabolic disorder. - Regular intake of medication.

| All secondary outcomes will be investigated either in the acute study (single strength training session with supplementation) or in the long-term study (12-week): Acute study: - Genome sequencing/transcriptome sequencing-. - Protein activation (AKT, AMPK, FoXo, MuRF-1, MAFbx, PRAS40, ERK1/2, LCB3, LBC I/II, Antrogin-1). Long-term study: - Histological examinations (muscle fibre distribution, muscle cell nucleus density, fibroblast density, satellite cell distribution) - Protein concentrations (AKT, AMPK, FoXo, MuRF-1, MAFbx, PRAS40, ERK1/2, LCB3, LBC I/II, Antrogin-1) - Muscle volume (MRI) - Tendon volume (MRT) - Muscle strength | — |
