Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Delirium: Age >= 18 years, Patient or legal representative gave consent, clinical diagnosis of delirium or acute encephalopathy, screened by CAM-ICU and validated by ICD-10 criteria Controls: Age >= 18 years, Patient or legal representative gave consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Documented history of dementia, history of intracranial and cardiovascular surgery or recent interfering neurological events within the past year, including stroke, trauma, encephalitis, brain metastasis and seizures

MeasureTime frame
Difference in biomarker levels of neurodegenerative and synaptic biomarkers in asservated plasma between patients with delirium and without delirium.

Correlations of biomarker levels with demographic (e.g., age, sex) and diagnostic (e.g., laboratory values, cause of delirium) parameters.
