Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients after severe blunt or penetrating trauma with active bleeding or an expected high risk of developing significant bleeding in the course of the disease.

The aim of the study is to evaluate data from the Quantra Hemostasis Analyzer in multiple trauma patients in order to validate and optimize the existing therapy algorithm. The first blood sample and analysis using the viscoelastic test method (VET) is usually carried out in the trauma room, others will follow as required during the operative care. For this purpose, an additional 3.2 ml of blood is taken from the patient in a standard coagulation tube (citrate tube) approx. 10 minutes after arrival via a venous or arterial puncture with the standard blood samples and analyzed directly in the Quantra Hemostasis Analyzer. The QStat® cassette is used for this. With the QStat® cassette, the extent and the start time of the fibrinolysis can be precisely monitored. In addition, changes in clot strength can be detected with and without the addition of tranexamic acid. With the help of the SEER (Sonic Estimation of Elasticity via Resonance) technology, the blood sample is vibrated by ultrasound and the linear elastic deformation as a result of the applied shear forces is measured. This not only measures the time required for coagulation, but also the mechanical properties of a clot.
