Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ET and PD patients: Age>=18 years, diagnosis of either PD or ET made by a movement disorder specialist according to established criteria, sufficient mental abilty and German language skills to undertand the purpose and potential risks of the study, right-handedness Healthy volunteers: Age >= 18 years, sufficient mental abilty and German language skills to undertand the purpose and potential risks of the study, right-handedness

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: neurological diseases other than ET or PD with the exception of mild depression and REM sleep behavior disorder in PD patients, traumatic brain injury, pregnancy, breast feeding period, orthopedic conditions that wopuld prevent participant from lying flat in the MRI scanner, relevant medical condicitons such as severe heart disease or severe diabetes, drug- or alcohol addiction, contraindication for MRI (e.g. cardiac pacemaker, insuline pump, metal implants, severe claustrophobia etc.)

MeasureTime frame
1) Gamma-aminobutyric acid concentration in the thalamus as assesed by sepctroscopy 2) Brain structure as assesed by anatomical imaging (MP2RAGE) 3) Brain activity during rest as assessed by EPIC based sequence 4) Brain water content as assessed by GRE sequence. All measures will be obtained via cranial MRI.
