Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The target group of the intervention is stroke patients who are in the chronic phase of the disease. In addition, the independent performance of light physical activities (e.g., walking 10 meters) is a prerequisite for participating in the intervention. If these criteria are met and a smartphone is available or can be operated, participants are given access to and an introduction to the training app, which was developed specifically for the target group by Strokecoach GmbH.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The target group of the intervention are stroke patients who are in the chronic phase of the disease. Non-stroke affected persons or stroke affected persons in active medical treatment are excluded for participation in the study. In addition, individuals whose physical impairment prevents them from walking 10 meters unsupported are excluded. In the absence of cognitive/motor ability to operate a smartphone independently, there is also no possibility of participation.

| As an objective check of compliance (training frequency and duration), the usage data of the training app is collected. Here, so-called timestamps - times of use of buttons in the app - are collected for the feedbacks, which are queried after each exercise in the individual training units. The time interval between the feedbacks can be used to check whether the participants have completed the exercises in a realistic time frame or skipped them. This check is intended to ensure that compliance is only analyzed for those participants who have actually completed the training program. | — |

| As another dependent variable related to the primary outcome, subjectively perceived health-related quality of life is assessed by the German version (Wirtz et al., 2017) of the Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12; Ware et al., 1996). Here, the questionnaire uses 12 items on different dimensions to represent general health perception, physical functioning and role functioning, existing pain, emotional role functioning, psychological well-being, negative affect, and social functioning. The items make use of different response scales. They are purely dichotomous scales ("In the past 4 weeks, have you had any difficulties at work or other daily activities at work or at home because of your physical health?"; Yes; No), dichotomous scales with additional gradation ("The following describes some activities you might do on a normal day. Are you limited in these activities by your current health condition? If so, how much?"; Yes, severely limited; Yes, somewhat limited; No, not limited at all), 5-point Likert scales ("How would you describe your health status in general?"; Excellent; Very good; Good; Less good; Poor), and 6-point Likert scales ("How much pain did you have in the past 4 weeks?"; I had no pain; Very mild; Mild; Moderate; Severe; Very severe) were present. Assuming that the expression of quality of life in neurologically ill persons is associated with feasible physical activity (Diaz et al., 2019), the sensorimotor self-image (SMS; Kleinert, 2000) of the participants will be recorded as a supplement. Self-image is assessed using 4 items with a 4-point Likert scale (0 = strongly disagree; 3 = strongly agree) on two dimensions. The physical activity self ("I move enough.") and the physical property self ("I have a good body awareness.") represent the two dimensions. | — |
