Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Residents of nursing homes in and around Hanover - 60 years or older - informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - insufficient knowledge of the German language (this impairs the standardized audiologic tests) - advanced dementia, that impedes execution of tests and data reliability

Primary

Measure	Time frame
At the beginning of the study and at the end (after roughly 3 years) the following parameters will be recorded: - medical history, premedication - microscopic examination of the ear drum, cleaning of the outer ear canal (if necessary) - pure tone audiogram, speech audiogram, otoacustic emissions - questionnaire concerning subjective hearing impairment, hearing aid related quality of life, based on the NHHI-questionnaire by Schow and Nerbonne - mini mental state test, clock-drawing	—
