Group 1: Liberal Fluid Fasting (clear fluids until transfer to holding area) Group 2: conventional regime for fluid intake

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age >= 70 years Planned elective surgical intervention Expected duration of anaesthesia >= 60 min Patient able to consent respectively legal representative

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Preoperative delirium Artificial nutrition Intracranial intervention Patients of Gastroenterology (e.g. ileus) Palliative patients Non sufficient language skills No valid consent of participation
