Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age at least 18 years or older Cardiac surgery with heart-lung-maschine Surgery in normothermia Signed consent form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: No access to the sublingual mucosa, for example due to previous injuries or surgery in this area Emergency surgery Patients with endocarditis Pregnancy Re-operations Known preoperative renal insufficiency or Creatinine level >1.3 mg/dl Multimorbid patients Preoperative anemia Procedures with minimized heart-lung machine No informed consent or withdrawal of signed consent

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
In the statistical evaluation, both groups will be compared with regard to the following parameters obtained by measuring the sublingual microcirculation: - Total vessel density - Perfused vessel density - Functional capillary density - Microvascular flow index - Erythrocyte velocity Sublingual microcirculation is measured before extracorporal circulation, after induction of cardiac arrest and after aortic cross clamping. The null hypothesis of the study is: Haemodilution during cardiac surgery with the aid of extracorporal circulation has no effect on the sublingual microcirculation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Correlation between cardiac output, mean arterial pressure, indexed oxygen supply during extracorporeal circulation and sublingual microcirculation. Furthermore, a possible correlation between acute renal failure up to 48 hours postoperatively according to Kidney Disease: Improve Global Outcome criteria and the sublingual microcirculation during extracorporeal circulationwill be investigated.
