Group 1: Using a sham Brain-Computer-Interface a placebo will be induced (expectation towards a brain state of low pain susceptibility). 30 trials per measurement. In pseudorandomized order with Arm

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy adults with normal or corrected-to-normal vision, right-handed

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - any contraindications for MRI measurement (metal implants, non-removable piercings, heart pacemaker, tattoos close to the head, known claustrophobia) - red-green deficiency - chronic or acute disease or pain - neurological or psychiatric disorders - pregnancy - regular medication intake (except contraceptive), recent use of psychotropic or analgesic substances - use of illegal drugs - consumption of caffeine 2 hours before MRI testing and consumption of alcohol on the day of testing and the previous day - smoking - participation in any medication-associated experimental study in the last 6 months

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Our aim is to assess time-frequency (EEG)neural characteristics of positive and negative expectations on pain in the expectation phase prior to the application of painful stimuli and to explore the stability of placbeo and nocebo effects.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
In addition, we will examine the neural processes after the cue presentation and after the application of the pain stimuli.
