Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Athletic competition in a track and field event that is under the umbrella of WMA • Age greater than 35 years • Ability to consent • Agreement and signed informed consent before the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Injuries or disorders that interfere with calf muscle contractions or with vertical jump testing will lead to exclusion of specific tests only • Any condition classed as unsuitable by the executive medical director

MeasureTime frame
Primary aim is to create an international cohort study of track and field masters athletes. This will provide a valuable data resource to address a wide range of scientific questions on sports participation, training regimes and age-related changes in function and health status including an assessment of the risks and benefits of track and field athletics participation for fitness, health, autonomy and social participation in older people.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary aim is to generate a database to • predict athletic performance from physiological fitness data • prospectively assess benefits of types of training for risks and benefits for fitness, well-being and autonomy in older people • prospectively assess benefits of types of training for risks and benefits for athletic performance. • elucidate the inter-relationship between motivation for sport, adherence to track and field athletics and fitness • to follow people up after they discontinue participation in master athletics and assess their health, wellbeing autonomy and death.
