Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. healthy subjects without regular medicaiton except oral contraceptives or low dose thyroid hormones. 2. Between 18 and 80 years old. 3. ability to give consent 4. Ability to sit up to 7 hours without using the toilette.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 5. Serious illness or serious traumata at legs or feet in the past. 6. Increased risk of thrombosis or blood clotting. 7. preagnancy or breast feeding. 8. Chronic disease or health condition, which alteres nerve function, skin or immune system. 9. allergies which require constand medicaiton. 10. Internal defibrillator or heart pacemaker.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The activity of peripheral unmylinised nerve fibres is measured via microneurography in response to various itchy mediators applied to the skin. The aim is to find out which nerve fibres cause the sensation of ‘itching’ as opposed to the sensation of ‘pain’ and by what type of activity.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary aim is to describe different signalling patterns that encode heat pain versus chemically induced itching.
