Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Age 40 to 60 years • At least 4 weeks of continuous incapacity for work due to musculoskeletal, oncological or psychological diseases in the period prior to recruitment • High risk of permanent reduction in earning capacity (established moderate or critical work ability) measured with the Work Ability Index (= 36 points).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Age under 40 or over 60 years • Current application for rehabilitation • an old-age or reduction in earning capacity pension is received or a corresponding application has been made • Public servant or person equated to public servant with pension requirements • permanently retired from working life • habitual residence abroad • insufficient knowledge of German, which makes the study consent process or the completion of the questionnaires difficult • acute illnesses that prevent participation in the rehabilitation measures
