Group 1: The children were examined in a logitudinal study at two measurement points (elementary school age, adolescence). Data collection included child development (e.g., WISC-V: language, cognition
DISYPS-III), quality of life, stress regulatory system parameters (cortisol), and maternal behavior (APQ
EBF-KJ).
We examined 2 groups of children:
1. Children with surgical correction of a ventricular septum defect.
2. Non-affected control group.

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: isolated ventricular septal defect, surgical correction before the third birthday
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: genetic syndrome, complex heart defects, insufficient/ lack of German language skills
