Interventions

Group 1: Pre interventional phase: The pre-phase is designed to gain knowledge about the incidence and severity of BPSD (Behaviour and Psychiatric Symtoms of Dementia) at three different departments

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) = 24, at least a 4-day length of stay at one of the three intervention departments and showed signs of challenging behaviour (at least one of the 12 possible symptoms according to NPI-Q)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: >24 MMSE (No cognitive impairment), lack of consent, lack of legal guardian in advanced dementia, thus no capacity to consent.

Design outcomes

Primary

Measure	Time frame
Reduction of challenging behaviour, as measured by the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire (NPI-Q), in the post-intervention group compared to the pre-intervention group within the observation period of 4 days.	—

Measure	Time frame
- Use of non-pharmacological treatments - Consumption of analgesics, antipsychotics, sedatives and antidepressants before and after the introduction of the STI.	—
