Group 1: The evaluation of packed red cells before transfusion is done by a blood gas analysis. This information is recorded together with the packaging and expiration date of the product.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Transfusion of packed red blood cells as part of intensive medical care. Retrospective data analysis from the past 16 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: No transfusion of packed red blood cells during intensive medical care.

Design outcomes

Primary

Measure	Time frame
As a primary endpoint, the relationship between storage time and pH, potassium as well as lactate levels of the packed red will evaluated by means of blood gas analysis.	—

Secondary

Measure	Time frame
Is there a noticeable effect on pH, potassium and lactate in the patients blood gas analysis shortly after transfusion?	—
