Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria are bilaterally normal hearing patients (historical control group) or the condition after unilateral/bilateral implantation of a cochlear implant (patients). Furthermore, it is required that patients are 18 years of age or older, since all outcome parameters can usually be measured from 18 years of age.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The criteria for exclusion are the lack of ability to perform speech audiometry and to complete the APHAB, i.e. exclusion in the case of incomplete speech development and insufficient knowledge of German. Additionally, serious co-morbidities that prevent cooperation and perseverance in completing the tests, such as treatment for a cancer or being mentally and physically handicapped, may cause exclusion.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The audiological measurements with a planned duration of 18 months will raise and evaluate speech comprehension in noise (using FBE, alternatively GKS 1 or 2 and OlKiSa) and the absolute sound localisation ability (ERKI method) in 27 patients.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The subjective assessment of speech comprehension in noise is determined and evaluated in 27 patients using the APHAB questionnaire (Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit).
