Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Consent, 18 years or older, planned start of preoperative statin therapy, elective, inpatient vascular surgery within the next 28 days

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Statin therapy within the past 28 days, pregnancy, breastfeeding, contraindication to statin therapy, condition after splenectomy, myocardial infarction, stroke or acute heart failure diagnosed in the past 28 days

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Difference in the number of regulatory T cells circulating in the blood between baseline (before starting statin therapy) and the day of surgery

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Death, cardiovascular death, myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, MINS (myocardial injury after non cardiac surgery) ischemic stroke, new heart failure, new atrial fibrillation, length of intensive care stay and length of hospital stay.
