Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Diagnosis of schizophrenia (ICD-10: F 20.x) German native speakers, sufficient IQ level (IQ > 85)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Inability to provide written informed consent, acute suicidality, comorbid Axis-I-Disorder (as per SCID-interview), neurological disorders, left-handedness (Edinburgh Inventory (Oldfield, 1971) = 8/10), metal implants in the body, disorders that are known to affect brain metabolism (hypertension, pulmonale, cardial or renal disorders, drug dependency), other psychiatric disorders, substance use (as per urine screening)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Brain activation during processing of humorous stimuli, measured using functional magnets resonance imaging (fMRI) before (T1) and after the interventions (T2, i.e. after 7 weeks). Healthy controls will be measured at T1 and T2, without intervention in between.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
symptom severity, every day use of humor as measured using specific questionnaires (cf. research protocol for details). Healthy controls will be measured at T1 and T2, without intervention in between.
