Group 1: In 25 patients with sepsis, 30 ml blood is collected daily for a total of 5 days (day of diagnosis of "sepsis" = day 1).
Group 2: 20 healthy controls

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients: Consent by the legal representative, age = 18 years, diagnosis "sepsis" according to sepsis 3 definition (sepsis-associated organ dysfunction indicated by a change of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score by 2 or more points compared to the previous day) Healthy controls: consent, age = 18 years
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Pregnancy, inclusion in an interventional study, infectious viral diseases (HBV, HCV, HIV, COVID-19) or unknown COVID-19 status, iatrogenic immunosuppression, diagnosis of "sepsis" > 24h
