Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Both projects parts A and B will be conducted with 9-13 years old children, males and females, German speaking, attending the 5th or 6th elementary school classes in the Canton Bern, Switzerland. In addition, signed consent form is required by his/her parent/ legal guardian.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria are any neurological, neurodevelopmental, or medical condition (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, Tourette syndrome, epilepsy) or functional limitation, reported by the school staff, that could hinder from participation or alter study results. An additional exclusion criterion is a previous enrolment into another study of the current research program.

| Alertness and visuo-spatial selective attention will be assessed by the same modified child-adapted Attention network task (ANT-R; Fan et al., 2009) using Inquisit 5 (Millisecond Software, Seattle, WA; https://www.millisecond.com/). Additional outcomes for chronic study of part B only. Gross motor coordination will be assessed the week before and the week after the 10-week intervention, using the “Körperkoordinationstest für Kinder” (KTK; Kiphard & Schilling, 2007). Higher-level executive function (reasoning, problem-solving and planning abilities) will be assessed the week before and the week after the 10-weeks intervention, using a revised Tower of Hanoi Task (Welsh & Huizinga, 2001) and the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Functions (BRIEF; Gioia, Guy, Isquith & Kenworthy, 2000) completed by participants’ parent/ legal guardian. Academic achievement (math performance, reading, spelling) will be assessed using: “Deutscher Mathematiktest für fünfte Klassen” (DEMAT 5+; Götz et al., 2013), “Salzburger Lese-Screening für die Klassenstufen 5-8” (SLS 5-8; Auer, Gruber, Mayringer, & Wimmer, 2005) and “Hamburger Schreib-Probe 1-10” (HSP 1-10; May, 2012). | — |
