Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients who have received a tympanoplasty type II, III or IV at the Department of Oto- Rhino- Laryngology at the University of Freiburg in the period 2012 to 2019 will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Excluded are patients with operations on the respective ear that took place before 2012 or outside the university hospital. In addition, the surgical indications meningo- and encephalocele, paraganglioma of the tympanic cavity, meningitis with focus at the ear and tympanoplasty as a preparation to a cochlear implant are excluded, as these underlying diseases would falsify an objective comparison of the hearing results.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in hearing after tympanoplasty type II, III and IV

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Evaluation of the number of retympanoplasties; Evaluation of the number of recurrent cholesteatoms in retympanoplasty; Evaluation of the hearing ability depending on the implanted prosthesis type (PORP/TORP/Clip/Winkel etc.); Dependence of retympanoplasty on the age of the patients; dependence of the number of retympanoplasties on gender; dependence of hearing success on gender; dependence of hearing success on smoking status; dependence of hearing success on MER- and OOPS-index;
